I’ve noticed Little Miss F. has a penchant for all things red. The first magnetic letters to come off of the dishwasher? The red E and the red I. The rings she prefers to carry about the home, red. If she spies a red card--it's hers!
And so I decided to collect materials for a Color Red Discovery Basket. I knew I would use a red clear plastic strawberry shaped colander my Mom bought me a while ago. It's one of my favorite kitchen items, but how can I not house Little Miss F.’s Red Basket in something red?
I collected a variety of household items to place in the basket--a Hello Kitty bag clip, a teaspoon measure, a cooking brush...
I also realized most of my items are solid, so I wanted to offer Little Miss F. a bit more texture. I found old strawberry sachets my Mom bought at a church bazaar years ago. A white & red gingham cloth circle from a jelly jar also added a bit of soft texture to the items.
Finally, I made two shakers from empty cream of tartar containers a friend of mine saved especially for this purpose. (I love it when good friends offer great ideas!) I also love that they have red caps. I filled one with red metallic beads and the other with sparkly translucent red perler beads. As Little Miss F. is not able to unscrew the tops so I didn't glue the shakers securely.
Of course, LMF’s favorite objects were the shakers--they were a total hit!
I’m beginning to collect ideas for my next discovery basket with a wooden theme.
How do I make my own Color Themed Discovery Basket?
